YOUR ULTIMATE FALSE LASH GUIDE
“Eyes are the windows to the soul, and lashes are the perfect pair of curtains”
Fluttery Falsies are the ultimate weapon to inject drama and glamour into your look. But dealing with positioning and the complicated time frame of ‘glue-drying’ can be a pretty daunting task. Ever approached the lash counter and frantically asked yourself: “Which ones are right for me?” “How will I apply them?” “What if they fall off?” Well, panic no more… Read on to find out everything you need to know about false lashes…
These are the ones you’re probably most familiar with. They consist of natural or synthetic fibers that are attached together by either a clear or dark strip as a base. Go for the clear-stripped base if you’re still at the practicing stage.
Read below to find out the technique in application!
How to Apply Strip Lashes
Make sure you curl your lashes for extra oomph (Shu Uemura curlers are the best!) Also apply a light application of mascara just so the falsies blend better into your natural lashes.
Step 1: Remove the lashes from the container by pushing down on the centre of the lash strip with your thumb. Do not pull from either end of the strip in case you stretch or tear them. (Keep the box for when you want to re-use them)
- Step 3. Wrap your lash around an eye pencil/brush or even your finger for a few seconds to manipulate them into a curved shape.
- Step 5. Use tweezers or a cotton bud to place the lash in the correct position, there’s no need to rush because you’ll know when the glue is drying because it will turn clear.
Step 2: Try them up to your lash line to gauge how much needs to be trimmed off to fit your eye. (Trim them from the outside!) Strip Lashes typically have smaller lashes at the inner corners to mimic natural lash growth so you want to keep those.
- Step 4. Apply some glue (Duo glue is the best!) along the band. Wait for roughly 60 seconds until the glue goes tacky before applying. This makes it much easier to place the lashes in the correct position.
- Step 6. Apply a second coat of mascara on top and then you’re good to go!
The second type of false eyelash is an individual lash. These are tiny clusters of singular hairs joined together by a small glue dot at the base. Individual lashes can be placed strategically where you want a little more length, or used to fill in spots that require an extra lash or two.
These lashes are notoriously fussy to work with, and if they’re not placed at the right angle they can look a bit lopsided. With some practice, however, you’ll find your perfect combination of your own lashes and individuals!
These lashes have no bounds, glitter, feathers, beads, lace and gemstones. Anything goes. There’s nothing subtle about these lashes. The perfect option for a big night out, fancy dress party or if you really want your eyes to make an impact.
Time to get your flirt on lashionistas!!!

How long will they last?
Your lashes will last up to 6 weeks or more. Properly applied lashes last until the cycle of the natural lash growth finishes. Touch-ups after ¾ weeks, however are recommended.
- What do Eyelash Extensions look like when applied?
With proper application, meaning one synthetic eyelash applied to one natural lash the look and feel is completely natural looking and real. No one will know you have extensions. They will just think you were born with beautiful, long lashes!
How do I care for my lashes?
Try not to rub your lashes in case it disrupts the bond and placement. Also don’t use an oil based eye-makeup remover or product around the eye area because this could loosen the bonds.
- Can I apply mascara to Eyelash Extensions?
Yes, even though mascara is not really required since the extensions actually give the illusion of wearing mascara. It must however only be water-based mascara. Do not use oil based or waterproof mascara.
