There are flair competitions. Participate and win! It will increase you chances of success when applying for a job in a prestigious club or bar.⁣

Our students practice flaring on the beach because it is safer for them and they don’t destroy our bar. When bottles fell on the sand they don’t break! ⁣

Fiesta de San Juan (Saint John’s Eve)

The tradition of celebrating the Night of San Juan has an ancient pre-Christian origin and is associated with the day of the summer solstice and the onset of summer. Skin Types

It is very important for everyone and especially for makeup artists to know about skin types. It will help to find a proper skincare routine to avoid future skin problems. Check below and find out what skin type you have and how to take care of it! Normal Skin Normal skin is smooth and has even texture with small pores. Cheeks are the driest area. The skin may experience some shine and larger pores on the forehead, nose, or chin. Water and oil content in this skin is balanced. This type of skin needs a normal care routine with cleansing, exfoliation twice a week, moisturization with lightweight lotions. Dry/Extra Dry Skin Dry/Extra Dry skin feels tight after washing. May look dry and feels rough and uneven, dehydrated. Pores are small or almost invisible. Dry skin shows fine lines faster than other skin types. We want to share with you our skin care glossary, which will help you to understand how to take a better care of your skin. Check below: Antioxidants – compounds that inhibit oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, thereby leading to chain reactions that may damage the cells of organisms. Vitamins A, C and E, beta-carotene, green tea and grape extract are highly effective antioxidants. Balms – rich moisturizers that target dry patches of skin. Look for ingredients such as avocado extract or shea butter. Base – generally refers to a product applied under foundation to smooth and protect the skin. Bases usually contain a mix of vitamins, antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients. Collagen – a fibrous protein found in skin. When collagen levels in the skin are high, the skin appears firm. Levels of collagen decline as we age. Wrinkles begin to form when there is a lack of collagen.Fixers – sprays that set makeup. Aperol Spritz

Spritz is one of our best-loved summer cocktails! People also call it Spritz Veneziano or Aperol Spritz. Spritz in German means “splash”. The cocktail has Italian origins and is commonly served as an aperitif in Northeast Italy. Spritz was born in the 1800s in Veneto, Italy. Foreign soldiers, merchants and diplomats were not used to local wine, which was served in the taverns, the alcohol content was higher than they were accustomed to. That is why newcomers started to ask to spray a bit of water into the wine to make the wine lighter. Check the recipe below: INGREDIENTS 90 ml Prosecco 60 ml Aperol Splash of Soda water METHOD Build all ingredients into a wine glass filled with ice. Stir gently. Castillo de Gibralfaro

If you are in Marbella, we have a travel tip for you. Visit the magnificent Castillo de Gibralfaro, which sits on a high hill overlooking Málaga city and port. From here you can take breathtaking pictures and enjoy wonderful views over the city. This Castle, built in the 14th century to house troops and protect the Alcazaba. Today it is one of the most visited monuments in Málaga. From its walls, visitors get spectacular views of the city. Also you can visit the Interpretation Centre to discover the site’s history. It was named after a lighthouse at its peak (Jabal – Faruk, the light mountain). In 1340 the Nasrid King Yusuf I made the place into a fortress. During the reconquest (i.e. the Reconquista) the Catholic Monarchs besieged it in the summer of 1487. Ferdinand the Catholic made it his temporary residence after the victory. Mastering

How to make your music sound professional? Mastering is an answer! It is a form of audio post production. The process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source which contains the final mix to a data storage device (the master). The source serves to produce all the copies via methods such as pressing, duplication or replication. What it requires? Critical listening. However, software tools exist to facilitate the process. Results depend upon the intent of the engineer, the skills of the engineer, the accuracy of the speaker monitors, and the listening environment. Music engineers often apply equalization and dynamic range compression in order to optimize sound translation on all playback systems. The standard practice is to make a copy of a master recording, known as a safety copy, in case you lost or damaged the master. The source material, ideally at the original resolution, is processed using equalization, compression, limiting and other processes. There are additional operations which you can apply as part of the mastering stage. For example: editing;specifying the gaps between tracks;adjusting level;fading in and out;noise reduction and other signal restoration and enhancement. Check below more lifestyle habits! Drinking enough water. If the body is dehydrated, the skin always shows it. Ronda

On this breathtaking picture you can see Ronda. If you are not from Spain, you may not know that in Andalucia there are so many places that are worth visiting. When taking our courses in Marbella, you will have time to visit many places! Today we will tell you about this charming town which is located just one-hour drive away from Marbella. Ronda is situated in a mountainous area with a river Guadalevín running through it. The river divides the city in two with 100-meter-deep El Tajo canyon. The spectacular bridge called Puente Nuevo connects the two sides of the city. Among the most popular sights are 2 more bridges (Puente Romano and Puente Viejo), Plaza de Socorro, the Palacio of the Marqués de Salvatierra with the small collection of Renaissance art and artefacts. American artists Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles spent many summers in Ronda, and both wrote about its beauty. Negroni

Do you know how to make Negroni cocktail? The Negroni is a popular Italian cocktail. While the drink’s origins are unknown, the most widely reported account is that it was first mixed in Florence, Italy, in 1919, at Caffè Casoni, located on Via de’ Tornabuoni and now called Caffè Roberto Cavalli. Count Camillo Negroni concocted it by asking the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen his favorite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin rather than the normal soda water. The bartender also added an orange garnish rather than the typical lemon garnish of the Americano to signify that it was a different drink. INGREDIENTS Gin – 30 mlBitter Campari – 30 mlSweet Red Vermouth – 30 ml METHOD Pour all ingredients directly into chilled old fashioned glass filled with ice. Stir gently. Cosmopolitan, or informally cosmo is one of the most popular cocktails nowadays. Let’s learn more about it!⁣ It gained popularity in the 1990s by its frequent mention on the television program Sex and the City, where Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, commonly ordered the drink when out with her girlfriends. DJ Terminology

We prepared for you the first part of DJ terminology. Bar – is one small segment of music that holds a certain number of beats. In dance music a bar is 4 “beats”. Beat – the beat is the basic unit of time, the pulse, of the mensural level. The beat is the rhythm listeners would tap their toes or nod when listening to a piece of music. If you count 4 taps/nods at a time you are counting 4 beats to a “bar”. BPM – stands for beats per minute. Break – 1) a bit of a song which sounds great and could maybe be used as a sample to make a new “hook” or “riff” with. 2) A change in a song where one or more instruments stops playing. 3) A change in a song where one instrument does something different e.g. a drum fill. Copyright – the legal proof that someone wrote the song you are using and that you should not copy, lend or borrow bits of their work without asking and/or paying them first. Bartending Terminology

Let’s find out how good you know the bartending terminology! Read below 10 terms every bartender should know: Bitters – concentrated herbal alcoholic blend frequently added to cocktails to enhance flavor. One of the most notable examples is Angostura bitters, originally from Venezuela. A German physician invented it in 1824 for stomach maladies. Dash – a few drops of an ingredient. Double – a drink with the double amount of alcohol comparing to the standard recipe. Free pour – pour liquor directly into a glass without using a jigger or shot glass to measure the quantity. You need to be an experienced bartender to be able to count on accurate pours. Garnish – added to a drink after it’s been made to either add something to the flavor profile or aroma or enhance the drink’s appearance. For example, orange zests, cherries, etc. Muddle – to mash ingredients with a muddler, a special tool for grinding and crushing ingredients into the bottom and sides of a glass. Have you heard about crate digging? Have you ever been to a vinyl music store? These stores are as magical for DJs as bookstores for bookworms. DJ’s and collectors call Crate Digging the act of searching records in stores, flea markets or thrift shops. This practice is associated with hip hop producers, who searched for rare records with sounds to sample for a newly created recording. With the rise of digital media in the following decades, this transitioned to the “digital” and “electronic” music collecting. Shooters / Shots

Shooters / shots are small servings of spirits or mixed drinks. Typically consumed quickly, always in a single gulp and it is common to serve a shooter as a “side” to a larger drink. A shot can include anything from 30ml to 100ml. It may also contain one to several spirits and be stirred, layered, shaken or simply poured. Many bartenders usually create their own signature shooters / shots after being a bartender for a while. The Art of Beatmatching

One of the first steps in learning to DJing, is to learn the art of beatmatching! If you don’t know already, it is a technique that involves matching the tempo of an upcoming track to that of the currently playing track so that they hit key points at the same time. You should pay attention to phrasing and track selection to make a single mix that flows together. Depending on the music style the tempo is going to be different. It is better to start learning beatmatching by using track of the same music genre. For example, house has 115-130 bpm, hip hop 60-100 bpm, techno 120-140 bpm, etc. Francis Grasso invented beat matching in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Initially he was counting the tempo with a metronome and looking for records with the same tempo. Later Alex Rosner built a mixer for him which let him listen to any channel in the headphones independently of what was playing on the speakers. This became the defining feature of DJ mixers. Do you know the difference between Bartender and Mixologist? Let’s start by defining who is the mixologist. He is a cocktail designer, who creates extraordinary drinks and develops signature cocktails, prepares own house-made syrups, bitters and liqueur or other ingredients The bartender is an individual with a passion for making beautiful, well-crafted drinks fast and efficiently using the recipes and ingredients prepared by the mixologist. He is also filling drink orders for the wait staff and caring for a bar full of guests, making them feel welcome and telling tall tales. He is also responsible for confirming that customers meet the legal drinking age requirements before serving them alcoholic beverages. Shortly speaking, the bartender knows what ingredients are used in a particular cocktail. The mixologist knows you need to prepare a cocktail with those ingredients. Old Fashioned

Did you know that cocktails were invented in the 18th century? British newspaper printed in March, 1798 first mentioned the term cocktail. Old Fashioned is one of the oldest cocktails, developed during the 19th century. Check its classic recipe below: INGREDIENTS 45 ml Bourbon or Rye Whiskey 1 Sugar Cube Few Dashes Angostura Bitters Few Dashes Plain Water METHOD Place sugar cube in old fashioned glass and saturate with bitter, add few dashes of plain water. Gin Basil Smash

Basil in cocktails 🤔 Everyone saw mint in cocktails, but what about basil? We definitely like this ingredient! Check bellow one of our favourite recipes – Gin Basil Smash: Jörg Meyer invented this cocktail in 2008 in Hamburg, Germany. He is the owner of Bar Le Lion and Boilerman. Ingredients: 50ml Gin 1 bunch basil leaves (never too much) 25ml fresh lemon juice 15ml sugar syrup Place basil and lemon into a cocktail shaker and smash. Add sugar syrup and gin and top up with ice. Shake it and our into a glass. Garnish with basil leaves. Turntables & DJ Controller

To explain you the difference between Turntables & DJ Controller, we will start from telling you what’re they: A turntable is the circular rotating platform of a phonograph (a.k.a. record player, gramophone, turntable, etc.). Turntables are used with a mixer and allow DJs to play vinyl records. DJs can match the tempos of different records by adjusting the playback speed of the turntable. It can be made either by adjusting the speed knob, or by manipulating the platter. By doing this, the records’ rhythms can be played together at the same time without clashing. It makes a smooth, seamless transition from one song to another (beat matching). Some DJs use turntables as musical instruments for scratching, beat juggling and other turntablism techniques. Crate digging is necessary to have unique records. It means checking record stores, flea markets or thrift shops for second hand music on vinyl. A DJ controller is digital musical equipment. Do you know that some make up products are tested on animals? According to Cruelty Free International, each year companies worldwide use over 115 million animals for carrying out tests. Some countries like the European Union, Israel, India, Norway, Switzerland, South Korea and New Zealand have banned animal testing, but China, for example, still requires it. In Marbella Event Academy we think that there is no excuse for animal cruelty. There are better alternatives to animal testing. For example, many companies choose to use in vitro testing. It has many advantages over animal testing. Cultured cell tissues also exist as well as computer models. Science favors these alternatives over animal testing because they’re more conclusive, but animal testing has the advantage of being low-cost. Cancelations of parties, festivals and other events are taking place everywhere. Artists all over the world are affected by the situation. But it is not the reason to give up! Look what DJs can do while staying at the lockdown: Check Genius video series called “Deconstructed”, where beatmakers of the top hip-hop beats explain how they made it. Manage your music library. It is always better to have everything organized and it will be easy to search for the tracks. Make a playlist on Spotify, share it and let people to enjoy it! Stream a Dj set online in Instagram, Facebook or where you have more followers. Watch a documentary about your favorite Dj, music group or artist. Beat Maker & Music Producer

What is the difference between a beat maker & a music producer? Comment below! A beatmaker composes beats using sampled sounds of chords, drums, guitars and even a vocal top-line. Afterwards he sells his beats to artists. It applies more to Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap and Urban music. A music producer has a vision. It is a person who: takes some raw ideas and shapes them into a polished finished product that people want to buy;has knowledge of how to create a structure of a song. He takes components (a guitar track recorded by some artist, a vocal track, drummer, bass, keyboard) and puts them together to create music;knows how to mix, edit and combine those tracks to create a song. A music producer also can compose music. It’s a creative role with a lot of control – like being a movie director. How to Practice Flair Safely at Home

As promised we will tell you how to practice Flair Bartending safely at home!⁣⁣ First of all, you should get the equipment – shakers and bottles. Don’t take risk of hurting yourself or destroying your home🏚 It is definitely better to practice with training bottles which are unbreakable. They can be made of high endurance plastic or flexible rubber (these bottles don’t even make loud noises when they fall and if you hit your arm, elbow or head, it will not hurt). There is no problem to find them online. After practicing for a couple of weeks, when you feel comfortable you can apply the moves to glass bottles.⁣⁣ When you are all set to start practicing, just put away as much as you can in the area where you are going to practice. New MacBook on the glass table? Chinese porcelain vase of 8th century? No, no, no. Put those precious things away from the training area! ⁣⁣ Now it’s time to start practicing. Dry Ice

Dry ice is cool and fun, right? It is used by bartenders to create a smoke effect 💨 in cocktails. But only when used correctly, it is perfectly safe. It is not an ordinary ice 🧊 and there are some things you should know before working with it. It is the solid form of carbon dioxide. Used to cool food and beverages and doesn’t leave water behind like regular ice. Read these important rules of working with dry ice: ⁣⁣ It can cause burns or frostbite. Avoid skin contact with and use gloves, towels or pot holders to move it.⁣⁣ It is harmful if eaten or swallowed. If ingested, seek medical help immediately.⁣⁣ It changes to CO2 gas as it sublimates, causing a lack of oxygen which may cause difficulty breathing or suffocation. Before and After Makeover!

Here at Marbella Event Academy we decided to do a fun ‘Before and After Makeover’. One lucky girl was selected to be our model to help her break into the modelling industry, and provide her with her first portfolio photographs. First off, I cleansed, toned and moisturised to prep her skin for the makeup looks to come. Some photographs were taken of her as a clean canvas so we could see the change in the end result. Once I had revived her skin with a splash of Caudalie facial oil, Dessange Hair took over and added their amazing oomph with big rollers for a 60’s Bardot-esque look. The 60’s look wasn’t entirely planned but happened organically- that’s what I happen to love about makeup! I then created a dark smokey crease, complemented by a gold shimmer on the lid. Her eyebrows were groomed and accentuated to continue the striking angles to her face. A touch of highlighter was used as well as slight contouring to accentuate her cheekbones and jaw line. Nightlife Calling: Black Coffee/Ame Live

Earlier this week Olivia Valere gave this season’s nightlife a much needed surprise, bringing Black Coffee to the scene. This South African DJ is a legend, his house, afro-house and deep house beats are one of a kind and so he showed us on Tuesday 17th. But don’t stress if you missed the night, because he’ll be back on the 7th of August to bless us with his presence once again, be sure not to miss it. In case you were busy hiding under a rock on Saturday night, Momento (recently launched nightclub in Marbella) infused the night with the incredible german-duo Âme, formed by DJs Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer playing live… where’s the praising hands emoji when you really need it? They spun classy deep house beats all through the session, one I’m glad I didn’t miss!
